2 injured in apparent Chicago gang-related shooting in Berwyn

BERWYN – Multiple gunshots were fired at a car containing two passengers in Berwyn in what appears to be a Chicago gang-related incident, according to a Berwyn Police Department news release.

Berwyn police officers responded to the shooting at about 11:33 p.m. Jan. 29 near 26th Street and Clarence Avenue. The victims have been identified as a 24-year-old woman and 25-year-old man, both from Chicago, the release stated.

The female driver appears to have been shot one time in the mouth, and the male passenger sustained multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release. They were transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, where they are being treated. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening, the release stated.

The man is known to have some gang involvement, and although the investigation is still in its preliminary stage, it appears he was targeted by a rival gang, also from Chicago, according to the release. At this time, it is believed none of the victims or suspects have any ties to the Berwyn area, the release stated.
