Huntley man gets 10 years in prison for possessing 300 pounds of marijuana

HUNTLEY – A Huntley man will serve 10 years in prison after police raided his home, discovered a "drug-dealing enterprise" and seized more than $700,000 worth of drugs, including 295 pounds of marijuana.

McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather sentenced 48-year-old Nicholas Domino on Thursday. Domino took a deal and pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession of more than 11 pounds of marijuana. He will receive credit for the jail time he served from May 5, 2015, through Thursday, Prather said.

Domino’s defense attorney, Liam Kelly, declined to comment.

On June 3, 2015, police searched the man's Huntley home, where they discovered luxury and collectible automobiles, several thousands of dollars in cash,
295 pounds of marijuana, more than
60 ecstasy pills, more than 500 prescription painkillers and 25 grams of cocaine, police said at the time.

Domino’s arrest was the result of an eight-month investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Rockford office, the Illinois attorney general, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, as well as the Carpentersville, Lake in the Hills and Huntley police departments.

The conditions of his negotiated plea mean Domino’s other charges for possession of controlled substances and narcotics were dismissed.

His wife, 40-year-old Rocio Domino, also was charged with a rash of felonies in connection with the raid. Her case is ongoing, and she is due in court March 22. She faces six to 30 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge.
