Editor's Notebook: Exiting the editor's chair – a fond farewell

Readers, it is with mixed feelings that I make this announcement – my last day as editor of the Kane County Chronicle, Elburn Herald and Sugar Grove Herald will be Jan. 5.

I started at the Kane County Chronicle seven years ago. At the time, I had been working at our company’s Lake County Journal publication.

When I was offered the Kane County job, I was ecstatic. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so hard – for so long – in my life!

The news team and I have had some great moments over the years. It has been an honor to provide you with important stories about your community.

That being said, some personal goals are taking me in a different direction. I’m off to start a new adventure in 2018.

But – before that new adventure begins – I must thank a few people.

First, to my editorial staff. Zack, Sandy, Renee, Brenda, Josh and Jake – you guys are such hard, dedicated workers. I’ve enjoyed editing your copy and working with you on projects. Keep telling the important stories.

Second, to our team of contributors. You all help make the papers – and our website – shine. Whether it’s a freelance photo or a submitted community column, your work is an important part of what we provide to our readers.

Third, to the advertising team in Kane County. You guys make what the editorial team does possible. Thank you for all of the effort you put in.

I’d also like to thank our designers. Although you never see their names in the paper, they play an important role in providing you with the product you hold in your hands.

Another big thank you to the many great editors I’ve had over the years. I wouldn’t have been half the editor I am without your guidance.

Also, a heartfelt thank you to Tom Shaw, vice president of Shaw Media. I’m so glad you selected me as editor of the Kane County Chronicle seven years ago. I have made many great memories working here and have become an even better journalist.

Lastly, thanks to you, dear readers. Your support of our papers and website is so important. We appreciate you championing local journalism.
