NEPONSET — Angel Astorga always wanted to start his own business after working at different jobs since he graduated from Kewanee High School in 2009.
He started Astorga Contracting in March of last year in hopes of eventually building his business enough to help people in the community who need jobs.
“My wife was pregnant at the time, and I decided to do it since I quit my job last December,” he said. “I advertised in Peoria, Princeton and Kewanee and got my first job in June. I had made many estimates and calls before then.”
Astorga learned to do a wide variety of jobs from his stepdad who moved to this area after marrying his mom.
“I learned the trades from him and he taught me. I helped on small jobs for friends and family,” he said.
Astorga Contracting specializes in concrete, brick and stone masonry jobs. He works on retaining walls, stone veneer, chimney repair, tuck pointing, foundation repair plus flat work.
He also works on metal and shingle roofing jobs, siding and gutters. Astorga can do interior and exterior remodeling projects.
After high school, Astorga worked in a factory and did odd jobs on the side.
“I decided I wanted to do something on my own,” he said. “People calling me can share what they want to do to bring their own unique style to what they want to do.”
Astorga will get his license for residential, commercial and industrial roofing in January. His email address is astorgacontracting@icloud.com. Astorga can be reached at 309-540-8445.
