DIXON – Timothy A. Shaw, 39, Melissa R. Shaw, 37, Ethen A. Shaw, 17, LeAnne E. Shaw, 15, Hailey F. Shaw, 12, and Dylan J. Shaw, 11, all of Dixon, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, in a house fire.
Timothy A. Shaw was born March 18, 1978, in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of David J. and Rosslynn E. (Butler) Shaw. Melissa R. (Duncan) Irwin-Shaw was born March 18, 1980, in Sterling, the daughter of Robert M. and Linda R. (Clary) Duncan. Timothy and Melissa were married July 19, 2014, in Sterling.
Ethen A. Shaw was born April 28, 2000, and LeAnne E. Shaw, was born Jan. 22, 2002, both in Norfolk, Virginia; Hailey F. Shaw was born Feb. 3, 2005, and Dylan J. Shaw was born Feb. 26, 2006, both in Dixon, the children of Timothy A. and Veronica A. (Lollis) Shaw.
Timothy was a graduate of Stillman Valley High School, Class of 1996. Tim enlisted in the Navy in February 1998, he served with honor and rose to the rank of petty officer first class as MM-1(SW). Tim was stationed at many commands and locations: the USS Austin LPD-4, Norfolk, Virginia; USS Constellation CV-64, San Diego; lead Navy recruiter in the Dixon-Sterling area, where he enlisted many local sailors, including his cousin, Matthew Brown, into the Navy; USS Kitty Hawk CV-63, Yokosuka, Japan; USS Ponce LPD-15, Norfolk; and his last command was in Norfolk, as a field service engineer at NSSA RMC. Tim returned home to the Dixon area in 2012. He attended Sauk Valley Community College where he studied engineering science. He met and fell in love with Melissa, and they were married July 19, 2014.
Tim worked at Exelon Nuclear, LaSalle Station, as mechanical maintenance FLS. Tim was a devoted, loving father to Ethen, LeAnne, Hailey, and Dylan, and stepfather to Mackenzie and Alex. He loved being outside, spending time with his children and his nieces, teaching them to enjoy the outdoors as much as he did. His hobbies included cooking, riding his Harley, fishing, and taking his family on vacations, and his many pets. Tim was a loving, dedicated, hardworking son, brother, father, uncle, and husband. He enjoyed life, and made life enjoyable for those who knew him.
Melissa was born at CGH and educated in Rock Falls. She graduated in June 1998, from Rock Falls High School. She received her associate degree in 2002, from Sauk Valley Community College. Melissa was an assistant manger at Maurice’s in Dixon. Her children, music, animals, and flowers were her main interests. She will be missed by many friends and relatives.
Ethen liked working with computers and was planning to join the Navy as an IT on submarines, after graduating from high school. LeAnne loved to draw, always was reading, and loved wolves. Hailey enjoyed cooking like her dad, giraffes, and being outdoors with her family. Dylan loved to fish and play with Legos and cars. He was very creative. They all loved to give hugs and everyone loved their pets and all animals.
Timothy is survived by his parents, David J. and Rosslynn E. Shaw of Dixon; one sister, Rebecca E. (Anthony) O’Brien of Dixon; and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth (Tammy) Butler of Vermont and maternal grandmother, Brenda (French) Butler of Virginia; and two nieces, Gabrielle E. and Adaline M. O’Brien, both of Dixon.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Robert and Linda Duncan of Rock Falls; two children, Mackenzie S. Irwin and Alex J. Irwin; and her former husband, Jonathan M. Irwin, all of North Carolina; and maternal grandmother, Mary E. Clary of Sterling.
Ethen, LeAnne, Hailey, and Dylan are survived by their mother and stepfather, Veronica A. (Corey) Masterson of Arizona; their half siblings, Riley, Addison, and Mikey Masterson of Arizona; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Timothy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bernard P. and Lucille D. (Lundquist) Shaw; his maternal stepgrandfather, Wallace Vogt; one uncle, James A. Brown.
Melissa was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, John R. Clary; and her paternal grandparents, Robert and Rose Duncan.
Ethen, LeAnne, Hailey, and Dylan were preceded in death by their half brother, Aaron Masterson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dixon Elks Lodge. An additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dixon Elks Lodge, with the Rev. Wesley Dickson, pastor of United Methodist Church of New Lenox officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, with full military graveside honors for Timothy.
Any monetary donations may be made payable to the Shaw Family Memorial and can be mailed to the funeral home or will be received at the visitation and memorial service.
