23-year-old McHenry woman charged with soliciting someone to kill ex-boyfriend

McHENRY – A 23-year-old McHenry woman was charged with trying to get someone to kill her ex-boyfriend, court documents show.

Stephanie E. Linderman asked a man to kill her 24-year-old former boyfriend, according to a complaint filed by McHenry County College police.

Linderman was charged Saturday with solicitation of murder, solicitation to commit aggravated battery and disorderly conduct for intentionally making threats to her ex-boyfriend.

In February 2016, Linderman asked a judge for an emergency order of protection against the man that police said she wanted dead.

Linderman wrote in court documents requesting the emergency order of protection in 2016 that her ex-boyfriend continued to visit her at McHenry County College despite being told by campus police that he wasn’t allowed on campus because he wasn’t a student. Police found the man Feb. 15 in a building, escorted him to the campus police department and officers explained to him again that he was not allowed, she claimed in the request for an emergency order of protection.

The ex-boyfriend continued to ask Linderman’s friend to ask Linderman to unblock him on Facebook so he could talk to her. He told her she lied to the cop about him threatening her. She wrote that he pleaded with her to tell campus security to let him back on campus because he needed an education, according to her request for an emergency order of protection.

She claimed in the request that in the past he grabbed her, hit her with his fist, called her names, harassed her, stalked her, prevented her from leaving when she wanted to calm down and acted jealous and possessive.

“He also told me he would drive past my house all the time on his way to work,” Linderman wrote in court documents from 2016. “He would also be overly protective and if I did something he didn’t like, he would hit me for it. He also was possessive when I didn’t answer his phone calls and texts and had my friend text me asking if I was mad at him and why I wasn’t answering his calls or texts.”

The order of protection was filed Feb. 17, 2016, and lasted until March 2, 2016. At that point, the order was vacated, according to court records.

Linderman is being held in the McHenry County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond. She is due back in court Wednesday.

If convicted, Linderman could face up to 30 years in prison.

It is unclear how police found out about the solicitation of services. The police complaint was filed by McHenry County College Police Deputy Chief Scott Sosnowski. Attempts to reach the campus police were unsuccessful.

MCC spokeswoman Christina Haggerty said the department is conducting an investigation into allegations of threats by Linderman, a former MCC student.

“There are no threats to the campus community, or to any other students, faculty or staff,” Haggerty said in an email.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office said it was unable to provide more details because the case is ongoing. Attempts to reach Linderman’s public defender were unsuccessful.
