Police find mushrooms, marijuana in Woodstock raid

WOODSTOCK – Police found psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana, scales, pipes, packaging material and cash Friday after a raid in Woodstock.

Officers from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, Woodstock police K-9 unit and the McHenry County Narcotics Task Force raided a home in the 1900 block of Tappan Street, where detectives recovered about 6.5 ounces of marijuana, almost an ounce of psilocybin mushrooms (24 grams), drug dealing equipment and $460.

The sheriff’s office estimated the street value of the drugs at about $5,000.

The raid followed multiple complaints of drug activity over the past month at the home of Douglas R. Glenn, 29, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Those complaints brought the county’s narcotics task force to conduct surveillance and undercover drug buys from Glenn’s home.

Police arrested and charged Glenn with possession and delivery of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. No charges were filed as of Friday regarding the mushrooms.

Glenn is in the McHenry County Jail awaiting a bond hearing Saturday morning. He faces up to five years in prison on the marijuana delivery charge.

Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers said mushrooms are not that common in the area, but like other drugs, the “fad” comes and goes.

“We haven’t seen them for a while, but it doesn’t mean they won’t come back,” Rogers said. “It’s kind of like methamphetamine, [in that] we haven’t really seen meth for a long time, but we’ve started to see individual users. But in the scope of things, mushrooms are not a very large portion of our drug arrests.”

Officers from McCullom Lake and Woodstock also cooperated in the raid. The narcotics task force includes officers from the Lake in the Hills and McHenry police departments.
