Sugar Grove celebrates Dunkin’ Donuts grand opening

SUGAR GROVE – Dunkin’ Donuts of Sugar Grove hosted its grand opening Aug. 18.

Around 20 people gathered for the event. Village board trustees, representatives from Dunkin’ Donuts and members of the community celebrated the store’s presence in Sugar Grove, which officially opened June 20.

Radio station US 99 was present for the grand opening. People participated in a raffle where the radio station awarded prizes to the community. Coffee samples were served during the opening by employees in the store and gift bags with 1-pound bags of Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee were handed out.

Steve Ekker, director of the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce, spoke about Dunkin’ Donuts before the official ribbon-cutting during the grand opening. Ekker commented on the wonderful input he has received about Dunkin’ Donuts.

“Dunkin’ Donuts has received an overwhelming positive response from the public,” Ekker said. “Everyone is really excited for it. My neighbors were asking for updates on the store when it was being built.”

The owner of the Dunkin’ Donuts location, Raj Patel, was absent from the Dunkin’ Donuts grand opening due to a prior commitment. Patel owns more than 40 Dunkin’ Donuts franchise stores. Patel’s father acquired the first of the family’s Dunkin Donut’s franchises in 1988 in Naperville.

The Sugar Grove Dunkin’ Donuts boasts an interior with booths and chairs that are all in earth-tone colors. Earth-tone images also adorn the walls inside of the store along with an outline of an image of a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee cup on the outside of the store.

Jason Corriveau, director of operations for The Hari Group, was present during the grand opening. Corriveau spoke about how successful the Sugar Grove Dunkin’ Donuts has been since it opened.

“This store has met our expectations,” Corriveau said. “Everyone is happy. … They watched the store being built and were very supportive of our business. We can tell this community is grateful for it. They can get their Dunkin’ right in town.”

A couple of people commented on how thankful the Sugar Grove community is to have a Dunkin’ Donuts nearby.

Sugar Grove residents no longer have to drive 20 minutes to pick up their coffee, Corriveau said.

Tom Thiem, director of operations for the Hari Group, commented on the feedback he has received from the public on the new Dunkin’ Donuts.

“People have commented on the breakfast sandwiches,” Thiem said. “They love them. They also love the iced coffees and the deal we have from 2 to 6 p.m. where they can get a 99-cent medium iced coffee.”
