Charges: 71-year-old traveled to Crest Hill to solicit sex from minor

CREST HILL – A 71-year-old Western Springs man traveled to Crest Hill to solicit sex from a minor who was actually a detective in disguise, according to charges filed against him by the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.

David A. Fulghum, a resident of the 1400 block of 49th Court, was arrested by Will County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday and charged with traveling to meet a minor, indecent solicitation of a child and unlawful grooming.

Between Jan. 3 and Thursday, Fulghum allegedly used an online service to solicit a person he believed to be a 14-year-old female child to perform a sexual act, according to the charges filed against him. However, the child was an online persona of a detective.

On Thursday, Fulghum allegedly traveled to the 1700 block of Plainfield Road, Crest Hill, to engage in aggravated criminal sexual abuse with the person he believed to be a child.

Calls to Kathy Hoffmeyer, county sheriff’s spokeswoman, were not immediately returned Friday.

The charges of traveling to meet a minor and indecent solicitation of a child is are Class 3 felonies punishable by up to five years in prison. The charge of unlawful grooming is a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison.
