Algonquin Famous Dave's closes

ALGONQUIN – Famous Dave's in Algonquin has shut its doors after nine years in the BBQ slinging business.

The franchise opened about 2008 at 1521 S. Randall Road, across from the Algonquin Commons. The building was put up for sale or lease about 10 days ago, said property broker Linda Kost of Realty Metrix Commercial.

Kost said the plan is to market the 6,500 square-foot building as a restaurant.

“It’s a fabulous location on Randall Road,” she said. “It’s at a signalized intersection and across from the Commons. It’s at a prime intersection on the retail corridor.”

Famous Dave's, a Minnesota-based chain, sold the Algonquin store — along with six other company owned Chicago-area stores – to Windy City Restaurant Holdings LLC in 2015, according to the Famous Dave's website.

The Algonquin restaurant will be the second of those seven to close since the sale. It follows the closure of the Evergreen Park location.

Windy City Restaurant Holdings couldn't be reached for comment Thursday.

Algonquin Community Development Director Russell Farnum said he didn’t think the closing reflected poorly on the amount of opportunities for development in the area.

“I think this is an indicator of changes in business,” he said. “There is an opportunity for another business to come in that is even better than Famous Dave’s.”
