The Legacy Guild awards $187,500 in college scholarships to 75 students

LA GRANGE – The Legacy Guild awarded $187,500 in college scholarships to 75 students living in Lyons Township High School District 204 who had a parent die while being raised in the area, according to a news release from the organization.

This year’s Legacy Guild scholars come from Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Countryside, Hodgkins, Indian Head Park, La Grange, La Grange Highlands, La Grange Park, Western Springs and Willow Springs, the release stated.

Each scholar receives a $2,500 scholarship renewable for four years of college – a commitment of as much as $10,000 per student, according to the release.

The Legacy Guild has provided $478,500 in college scholarships since its inception in 2012, the release stated.

The nonprofit was formed by a group of men from La Grange and surrounding areas drawn together after a cluster of sudden and unexpected deaths of friends and neighbors, according to the release.

“We created the Legacy Guild Scholars program to support local students and surviving spouses who have suffered a significant loss – and to honor those in the community who have passed away," Legacy Guild Scholarship Committee Chairman Ned Sher of La Grange said in the release. "Beyond the scholarship money, the men of The Legacy Guild help these Scholars build a network to navigate college, find internships and ultimately get jobs after college. It is very humbling to meet these Scholars, and hear their stories.”
