CRYSTAL LAKE – McDonald's is looking to add a second drive-thru lane and fully remodel the exterior of its 551 Crystal Point Drive building.
McDonald’s received a positive recommendation from the Crystal Lake Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday night and will seek approval from the City Council at its July 18 meeting.
The proposed changes to the exterior would renovate the building with a “modern architectural design” and a color scheme with varied shades of gray and white, according to city documents. The restaurant's traditional mansard roof also will be flattened to fit the modernized appearance.
The addition of a second drive-thru lane will eliminate nine parking spaces along the south side of the building, while the north access drive will be changed to exit only to assist with the circulation of traffic.
The Crystal Point Drive store would be the first of three McDonald's locations in Crystal Lake – including ones on Route 14 and Route 31 — to undergo exterior remodeling.
