MOKENA - Police say four men used hammers in an attempt to remove iPads from a display case Thursday.
The incident occurred about 8 p.m. at Meijer, 11305 Lincoln Highway.
"Four men came into the store and went to the area where the iPads are kept inside a Lexan (plexiglass) display case," Chief Steven Vaccaro said. "They used hammers to try and break open the case to get to the iPads but were unsuccessful."
The racket brought the attention of store personnel and the bandits ran out to the parking lot. Vaccaro said the suspects fled to a Mercedes SUV "with a flipped-up license plate."
Vaccaro said Friday police were unaware of any similar recent thefts, but the incident remained under investigation.
