AURORA – The Kane County girls track and field meet is the unofficial start of the postseason as athletes get ready for the conference, sectional and state meets.
Schools covered by the Chronicle enjoyed strong results at the Kane County meet at West Aurora on April 28. West Aurora won the team title, with Geneva (second, 100 points), Batavia (third, 95) and St. Charles East (fifth, 62) finishing in the top five.
St. Charles North’s Audrey Ernst won the 3,200-meter run in 11:11.26 for the North Stars’ top finish.
Geneva’s Georgia Reed was a champion in the 100 hurdles (16.11 seconds) and 300 hurdles (45.53), and teammates Susan D’Onofrio (35 feet, 1.5 inches in triple jump) and Kristin Higgins (5-3 in high jump) joined Reed as champions.
Batavia’s Sam Healy was the shot put champ (37-9).
Rosary’s 4x200 relay of Danielle Goering, Mary Kate Bakala, Kyla Dalton-Colley and Julianne Hutchison won with a time of 1:46.83.
Area teams also produced a slew of runner-up results, including St. Charles North’s Natalie Galvan in the 800 run (2:20.63) and Geneva’s Sophia McDonnell in the 1,600 run (5:09.11).
St. Charles East’s Casey McNichols was second in the 300 hurdles (46.06), Batavia’s Symone Houston-Davis, Sabrina Schlenker, Hannah Schlaman and Anna Knutson took second in the 4x100 (50.42) and the same quartet, with Emily Huber running the anchor leg in place of Knutson, was second in the 4x200 (1:47.22).
East’s 4x800 team of Emma Battin, Alexia Scull, Reiney Scull and Klaudia Wyszynski (9:47.14), Geneva’s Hannah Borodin (33-9 in shot put) and Houston-Davis (16-11 in long jump) were all second.
