SYCAMORE – A 34-year-old man who police said made sexual advances on a 15-year-old girl was freed on his own recognizance Wednesday.
Police said James J. Chasteen, who rents a space in a house in the 100 block of John Street, asked the girl, who also lives there, for pills, then asked her for sexual favors, according to court documents.
According to court documents, when police arrested Chasteen at the house Tuesday, he told detectives he knew of the incident, and when asked whether he’d made comments that could be considered sexual, he said, “Definitely.”
Chasteen is charged with domestic battery and sexual exploitation of a child, all punishable by up to a year in jail if he’s convicted.
Chasteen is not allowed to live in the house, nor is he allowed contact with the teen, as conditions of his bond.
He’s scheduled to be back in court at 9 a.m. June 16.
