Marengo man wins $50,000 in Powerball lottery

MARENGO – A local man who won a $50,000 Powerball prize plans to share the money with his family.

Scott Husfeldt, a lifelong Marengo resident, won the prize when his Quick Pick lottery ticket matched four numbers plus the Powerball number in the Feb. 15 drawing. The winning numbers were 5-28-33-38-42, and the Powerball number was 19, according to a news release.

Husfeldt bought his ticket at Express Lane, 308 E. Grant Highway, in Marengo. The next day, he checked the Powerball numbers in the newspaper.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw that my numbers matched, so I went back to the store to double-check my ticket, ” Husfeldt said in a statement.

Still not convinced, Husfeldt then looked up the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website. The win is starting to sink in, he said.

“I play Powerball once in a while, and I always buy a ticket when the jackpot is really high,” Husfeldt said.

Express Lane received a $500 bonus, one percent of the prize money, for selling a winning ticket, according to the release.
