GENEVA – A DeKalb man faces charges including aggravated assault and resisting arrest resulting in injury of a police officer in connection with an incident where he damaged his ex-girlfriend’s car and lost his temper with police.
Matthew A. Wade, 33, of the 1500 block of Holmes Drive, was charged Feb. 17 with criminal damage to property, assault, driving under the influence, driving without insurance and driving without a rear registration light, court and police records show. If convicted of the most serious charge, he could face one to three years in prison.
The charges stem from an incident that began at the Mobil gas station at 1166 E. State St. shortly before midnight, according to police reports.
Wade went there to talk to a woman who had broken up with him, then backed his red pickup truck into her car, a 1997 Infiniti I30t, before he drove away, according to police reports.
Police said Wade was argumentative and hostile, and spouted profanities at them when they pulled him over, eventually throwing his driver’s license out the window, police reports show.
He exited the vehicle forcefully, screaming profanities with his fists clenched, reports said. After Wade was seated in the back of the police car, he began screaming profanities and kicking the door, so officers pulled him from the vehicle and put him in restraints, but not before an officer’s finger was injured, reports stated.
Wade was being held in the Kane County Adult Justice Center on $50,000 bail as of Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
