Troy Middle School Mathletes take 1st place at competition

PLAINFIELD – Troy Middle School Mathletes finished in first place at the Feb. 23 Joliet West Mid-High Math Competition, winning the overall competition that was composed of nine area middle schools.

The seventh-grade Troy Group team placed second at the competition, composed of students Brandon Price, Daniela Chavez, Evelyn Mantia and Olivia Lapinskas.

Troy Mathletes students who earned individual awards included Julie Wang and David Randolph, who were the eighth-grade mental winners; and Sean Zarobsky and Dhwani Patel, who were the seventh-grade mental winners.

Troy Mathletes also scored high on the three emoji tests, which consisted of equations containing symbols that needed number replacements.

For the Emoji1 test, the Troy Mathletes seventh-grade team of Sean Zarobsky, Brandon Price, Evelyn Mantia, Daniela Chavez and Madisyn Williams placed second..

For the Emoji 2 test, the Troy Mathletes seventh-grade team of Sean Zarobsky, Brandon Price, Evelyn Mantia, Olivia Lapinskas and Madisyn Williams finished in first place.

For the Emoji 3 test, the Troy Mathletes seventh-grade team of Sean Sarobsky, Brandon Price, Daniela Chavez, Dhwani Patel and Olivia Lapinskas  tied with Washington Junior High School for second place.

The Troy Mathletes eighth-grade team of Julie Wang, Alayna Gumabong, Paola Lozada, David Randolph and Kimberly Tobiasz came in second place on the Emoji 2 test.

Other participating team members were Kailey Staniszewski, Kelly Rappaport, Lilian Murdie and Avelin Thepsomphone.

Team coaches are Melissa Cardone and Anita Garvert.
