Pastor Roger Schneider named McHenry's 2016 Fiesta Days parade marshal

McHENRY – Pastor Roger Schneider has been chosen to lead McHenry's Fiesta Days parade as 2016 parade marshal, the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce announced.

Schneider has served Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for the past 47 years, leading the congregation through four building programs and to a membership of 3,000, according to a news release.

Under his tutelage, the church developed eight choirs or music groups and three active youth groups, supervised 17 intern pastors and created a $2 million fund to assist families in need and provide scholarships.

Schneider also helped develop a “kinship” program, which matched mentors with young people. This effort evolved into the Big Brother Big Sister program we know today.

Schneider served for 22 years on the board of Family Services for McHenry County, has been involved with Service Club for Kiwanis for 30 years, and has participated in school superintendent searches and veterans events.

He is a past recipient of the chamber’s Frank Low Award for community service.

Schneider is married to Rosemary and has raised two children, Mark and Margo, both residing in McHenry.

The Fiesta Days parade begins at 1:30 p.m. July 24.
