BATAVIA – An anonymous donor has offered to match funds raised for the Batavia Arboretum project by the Batavia Women’s Club Value Our Trees Committee. The anonymous donor is a person who lost a sibling that was a freshman at Batavia High School, and two trees had been donated to the arboretum at the time.
“We’ve waited over 50 years to see her name on a plaque, and it’s our intent to make certain that [the committee] has the funds to accomplish this,” the family said in a news release from the Value Our Trees Committee.
The family is offering a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,250 toward a plaque that will memorialize those for whom trees were planted in the arboretum. Donors will be recognized at the dedication of the plaque and also in a news release before to the ceremony. Contributions need to be clearly marked “Arboretum Plaque Fund” and can be mailed to the Batavia Women’s Club, P.O. Box 967, Batavia IL, 60510.
