CRYSTAL LAKE – Indian Prairie Elementary School is inviting the community to an upcoming open house event to celebrate 25 years of serving Crystal Lake students.
The school was the first of three District 47 schools to be built on the south end of the city in 1991, according to a recent release from the district.
The celebration, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, will feature tours of the building. Each classroom will showcase one of the school's 25 years with photo boards and a video slideshow. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
"We look forward to this opportunity to highlight the quality education students have received at Indian Prairie as a result of outstanding leadership and a dedicated staff," District 47 Superintendent Kathy Hinz said.
In addition to celebrating the school's 25th year, the event also will mark Jim Kelley's 22-year tenure as principal of Indian Prairie. Kelley will retire at the end of June.
