A two-run home run by Jordan Chandler in the third inning was all the offense the Erie-Prophetstown baseball team needed in a 2-1 home win over Sherrard on Monday.
Kale Orman pitched five innings for the win, striking out six. Justice Cole earned the save. The two combined for a one-hitter.
Nathan Earl took the loss, striking out 10.
Ottawa 8, Sterling 7: Sterling scored a run in the top of the seventh but fell one run shy in a NIB-12 West road loss.
The Golden Warriors jumped in front with three runs in the first and two in the second, but Ottawa answered, scoring three in the second and three more in the fifth.
Nick Olds, Zach Springman and Turner Morse all went 2-for-4 for Sterling. Springman drove in a pair of runs.
Oregon 6, Burlington Central 4: Kevin Beard went the distance and struck out seven as the Hawks picked up a road victory.
Zach Stromberg went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the offense.
Newman 12, Aquin 2: A six-run fifth inning invoked the run rule in Newman’s win at home.
Landon Vesley and Ricky Rank each had three hits for the Comets.
AFC 13, Kirkland 0, 5 innings: AFC put seven runs on the board in the fifth inning in a win at Kirkland.
David Atkinson, Dylan Pitzer and Tyon Davis each drove in two runs for the Raiders.
Princeton 12, Amboy 1: Cain Powers went 1-for-2 with a double and scored a run, but that was the Clippers’ only offense in a home loss.
Jordan Hochstatter pitched the first three innings and allowed three runs on three hits and walked two.
Warren-Stockton 5, Eastland 2: The Cougars allowed four runs in the top of the seventh in a home loss.
Brighton Haverland and Tucker Welch drove in Eastland’s runs.
West Carroll 1, Dakota 0: The Thunder shut out the Indians in an NUIC crossover contest at Dakota.
Cory Simpson drove in the lone run for the Thunder, and threw three innings of relief of winning pitcher Kaleb Plattenberger.
Softball
Erie-Prophetstown 2, Sherrard 0: Calisa Steel went 2-for-2 with a home run as the Panthers picked up a home win against the Tigers.
Alicia Stout also had an RBI for Erie-Prophetstown. Kylie Ackerman tossed a 4-hitter in the circle.
Amboy 1, Princeton 0, 10 innings: Nataly Jones hit a 1-out single to drive in Emma Lindenmeyer, who had doubled, as the Clippers edged the Tigers in Amboy.
Karlee Doege went the distance in the circle, allowing four hits and one walk, with 15 strikeouts. Kylie Highbarger had two of Amboy’s seven hits.
River Ridge/Scales Mound 6, Eastland 3: Drew Preston, Paige Gallentine and Erica Dambman each knocked in runs for the Cougars in a home loss to River Ridge/Scales Mound.
Pearl City 4, Forreston-Polo 3: Tyra Clark hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning as the visiting Wolves edged the Cardinals.
Tennis
Dixon 5, Marengo 0: Dixon players dropped a total of two games in a sweep of Marengo.
Michael Gale at No. 1 singles and the No. 3 doubles pairing of Baily McClain and Patrick Johnson won 6-0, 6-0. Jason Rugh at No. 2 singles won when his opponent retired due to injury.
Bryce Stanley and Zach Healy at No. 1 doubles and Daniel Ferguson and Jonathan Rivera at No. 2 doubles also won in straight sets.
Alleman 4, Sterling 1: Jack Nitz won a third-set tiebreaker for the Golden Warriors' lone win of the day.
Nitz won his No. 1 singles match 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 over Joey Miller. At No. 2 singles, Henry Steinhagen fell to Augie Darrow 7-6 (7-1) 6-1.
Mendota 5, Newman 0: The Comets were swept at Sauk Valley Community College.
Jake Neisewander and Cody Bonnell fell 6-4, 6-1 in their No. 1 doubles match. Isaac Blaney and Jacob Terveer lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Soccer
Dixon 11, Mendota 1: Lexy Langloss had a hat trick in the Duchesses' win at Mendota.
Langloss opened the scoring 2 minutes into the game, assisted by Britney Pitzer. She added two more before the first half was over on assists from Lauren Pollom.
Lauren Chacon scored twice and Katie Provo added another goal in the first half. Pitzer tacked on an unassisted goal, and Olivia Dennison scored, assisted by Hallie Nelson, to make it 8-0 at halftime.
Ashley Knopp added goals in the 45th and 50th minute. Madelyn Melvin added another, assisted by Kirsten DeArvil.
Dixon (8-1, 6-0 BNC West) will visit Winnebago at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Boys track
Marcos rule at home: Brooks Grobe won three individual events and led off a sprint win as Polo-Forreston won a seven-team meet in Forreston. The top three squads were the Marcos (210 points), Oregon (147) and Amboy (86).
Grobe won the 100 (11.12), 200 (23.59) and 400 (53.83), and teamed with Joe Bowers, A.J. Christiansen and Gavin Fuchs to take the 400 relay (43.91).
For Oregon, Ian Hussung won the 800 (2:06.76) and 1,600 (4:38.16), and Kole Mowry led the way in the shot put (46-0) and discus (135-11). The Hawks also won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
For Amboy, Romeo Blackburn won the 3,200 (10:46.25), Josh Gross won the long jump (19-4).
Rockets second at Princeton: Rock Falls scored 172 points to place second behind Princeton (274) at the six-team Princeton Invitational.
First-place finishers included Brayden Hamblen in the 3,200 (9:53.34), Seth Williams in the 1,600 (4:30.92) and Brandon Boyer in the triple jump (39-10 1/4).
Girls track
Rock Falls places third: Alex Romo won both throws as the Rockets (174) finished behind Hall (229) and Kewanee (197) at the six-team Princeton Invite.
Romo went 32-10 in the shot put and 92-8 in the discus.
Michaela Busch won the 300 hurdles (48.43), while Sydney Young won the 1,600 (5:37.93). Busch and Young teamed with Autumn Sisson and Molly Mammosser to win the 1,600 relay (4:29.08).
College tennis
Waubonsee 7, Sauk Valley 2: Alex Knack and Lane Martells won singles matches for the Skyhawks in a home loss to Waubonsee.
The doubles portion of the meet was concluded on Monday, after high winds halted the match back on April 2.
