High school sports roundup: Tommy Helton's title a highlight for York wrestling at regional

York’s Tommy Helton won 1-0 in the 285-pound title match at the Class 3A Glenbard West wrestling regional Feb. 6.

Helton was York’s only champ, but Brian Nudera made the 195-pound final and Austin Hoffman won the third-place match at 138 to join Helton at the Conant sectional Feb. 12 and 13.

Addison Trail

Karim Fuentes won 2-1 in the 285-pound third-place match at the Class 3A Glenbard West regional to advance to the Conant sectional.

IC Catholic

Joe Bianchi (106 pounds) and Pat Guinan (170) were both champs at the Class 1A Lisle regional Feb. 6 to move on to the Plano sectional.

Brendan O’Brien (second at 145) and Anthony Silva (second at 160) also moved on to the sectional.

CHEERLEADING

York

A score of 87.60 led to a fourth-place finish for the Dukes in the co-ed division at the state finals Feb. 6.

Timothy Christian

Timothy earned a score of 79.53 in the state finals Feb. 6 and placed seventh in the small team division.

IC Catholic

The Knights scored a 75.57 in the prelims at the state finals Feb. 5 and finished 16th in the small team division.

GIRLS BOWLING

York

Emma Baubly placed second with a score of 1,132 in leading the Dukes to the team title at the Hinsdale South regional Feb. 6. York had a total pinfall of 5,110. Jessica Cwik (1,054) was sixth, and Lauren Gold (1,003), Carly Larux (963) and Dana Campo (958) also contributed. York competes in the Reavis sectional Feb. 13.

IC Catholic

Amber Lewis, the Knights’ lone competitor at the Hinsdale South sectional Feb. 6, scored a 754 and finished 42nd.
