York’s girls basketball team won its third straight game with a 60-39 victory against St. Viator on Jan. 16.
Ellen Foley scored a game-high 12 points with Kathleen Levins and Caylin Rufus adding 10 points apiece. Kelly Polte notched nine points Danielle Dennis added seven points.
BOYS BOWLING
IC Catholic
Joe Pecoraro (994) and CJ Slowinski (965) were the top two scorers for the Knights at the Hinsdale South regional meet on Jan. 16. Pecoraro was six pins away from advancing to the sectional meet on his own.
The Knights bowled a 4,447 and finished ninth in the team standings.
Nick Slowinski (921), Clayton Davis (805) and Timothy Shuflit (762) also contributed to the team score.
GIRLS GYMNASTICS
York
Sydney Hill finished third on beam (8.65) and tied for eighth place on bars (7.9) at the Niles North invite on Jan. 16.
Hill was fifth in the all-around with a total score of 32.7, and the Dukes were sixth as a team with a 91.95 score.
WRESTLING
York
Tommy Helton had the Dukes’ best showing at the Mahomet-Seymour invite on Jan. 16. He pinned three consecutive opponents to start the tourney, then won 4-3 to move on to the 285-pound title match, where he finished second.
Brian Nudera had three pins to start the tourney, and after dropping a semifinal match at 195 he bounced back with a 3-0 win to take third place.
Ryan Costello won two pool matches and placed seventh at 106 with a technical fall in his final match.
Austin Hoffman went 1-1 in pool bouts but won via major decision three times to place ninth at 138.
Antonio Gutierrez (126), Lucas Wagner (152) and Cal Widener (220) won their final matches of the tourney to place 11th.
