WALNUT — Charles E. “Bud” Bell, 93, of Walnut died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Heritage Health in Walnut.
Bud was born June 2, 1922, in Primghar, Iowa, the son of Charlie and Ada (Wathan) Bell. He was united in marriage to Lillian Darmer on May 25, 1946, in Macomb. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2003. Bud and Lillian owned and operated the Walnut Café for 46 years, retiring in 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army, landing in Normandy on D-Day+6 and participated in the Liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge. Bud was a graduate of Bradford High School.
He was a member of Walnut American Legion Post 179, Wyanet VFW, Walnut Gun Club and Ducks Unlimited. Bud was an avid hunter.
He is survived by one daughter, Lilli (John) Ruggeri of Millstadt; one son, Chuck Bell of Newark, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; and three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Karen Berg officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Walnut Fire Department.
