Joliet police: Lockport man choked girlfriend at hotel

JOLIET – A man allegedly throttled his girlfriend Wednesday night in a downtown Joliet hotel.

John C. Foster, 53, had been told by the 58-year-old woman and staff to stay off the premises of the Plaza Hotel, 26 W. Clinton St., according to Deputy Joliet Police Chief Ed Gregory.

“[But] around 7 p.m. he knocked on the door of her room and came in saying he wanted to talk with her. An argument ensued, and he pushed her back on the bed and began choking her with both hands on her throat until she was unable to breathe,” Gregory said.

The victim was able to break Foster’s grip and ran downstairs to the lobby, Gregory said.

Officers found Foster at Clinton and Joliet streets, and arrested him after a brief struggle, Gregory said.

Foster, of the 300 block of Laurie Drive in Lockport, was booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
