STERLING – Educators of Beauty is under new ownership.
Dixon native Angie Clevenger, 47, bought the beauty school from Rhonda Reese on June 1.
It’s Clevenger’s third school – she also owns Educators of Beauty schools in Rockford and LaSalle.
Before coming to Educators of Beauty, Clevenger spent 17 years as a divisional store manager at Salon Centric, one of the largest wholesale salon and beauty supply distributors in the United States. She oversaw 60 of its stores.
Clevenger has no major changes planned for the Sterling site, which has 41 students at the moment.
In addition to training cosmetologists, the school provides hair and beauty services to the public, often at costs below salons.
“This business has been here for 40 years, and it’s already a well-run business,” said Clevenger, who lives in Dixon. “In this economy, our focus is to produce the best students that we can, so they can go out and make a living.”
She plans to tweak the curriculum.
“I want to create more business-building skills for the students. They need to be able to build their business and run their business, and to do that, they need business skills. We are going to focus on that, as well as producing good hairdressers, so they can be competitive and make the best living that they can.”
