Pedestrian killed by train near Lemont

LEMONT – A 17-year-old girl was struck and killed by a Metra train on the Heritage Corridor line Sept. 2 in unincorporated Cook County near Lemont, according Cook County Sheriff's Department.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the victim was Alexa Turner of Lemont Township.

According to sheriff's office, the incident, which appears to have been accidental, took place shortly before 6 p.m. near Main Street between Boyer Street and Kotlin Road.

The girl was on the tracks and wearing ear buds when the train engineer saw her and attempted to avoid impact, according to the sheriff's office.
