SPRING VALLEY — A 22-year-old LaSalle man has died from injuries sustained in an ATV accident that occurred on Monday, July 13 in Spring Valley.
Julian A. Molina was pronounced dead on Wednesday, July 15, at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria where he was Life-flighted following the crash.
According to Spring Valley Police, an officer on patrol attempted a traffic stop around 1:55 p.m. on Molina who was driving an ATV in the intersection of Dakota and Hennessey streets.
The ATV fled northbound on Hennessey Street at a high rate of speed, disregarding several stop signs in the residential neighborhood. The ATV turned east onto Sixth Street where the officer lost sight of the vehicle. The ATV then turned south onto Greenwood Street.
Witnesses stated they observed the ATV traveling over 60 mph southbound in the northbound lane on Greenwood Street, the report said.
In the 600 block of North Greenwood Street, the ATV swerved onto the berm to avoid a head on collision with oncoming traffic. The ATV continued on the berm for 86 feet where it struck a power pole.
Police were alerted to the accident by area residents.
The 10/33 Ambulance transported Molina to St. Margaret’s Hospital where he was Life-flighted to Peoria.
