Four Your Consideration: Is it ever nerve-racking to compete indoors during good weather?

This week, the Kane County Chronicle sports staff asks four indoor spring sports athletes or coaches: Is it ever nerve-racking to compete indoors during good weather?

Nick Buseski, Geneva boys volleyball, Sr.

"Yeah, and in the gym too, it gets super hot. So by the time we're all done with practice, we're completely drained of any fluid that we've consumed over the last couple days. Going out after practices when it's 5:30 [p.m.], you're like oh, it's 80 degrees, I could have … gone out and had a good time. But especially now, when a lot of our season has gone, people still have not been tired out or burned out from the sport. And around this time we're getting this good weather, I try to get the team together for some beach volleyball."

Chris Cloy, St. Charles North, boys water polo coach

"A lot of times, it seems like we have this nice weekend on a Saturday when we have a tournament so we're inside all day in a pool. … What's nice is we have the luxury of a little bit more consistency in our season. When we're getting into our postseason [which begins Thursday], a lot of teams in other sports and getting into makeup dates and scrambling a little bit to fit everything in."

Allyson Karas, Geneva badminton, Sr.

"Sometimes, you just don't want to go to practice if it's nice outside. … It's not as bad. And they're not long, [the practices]. They're only like an hour and a half, at most.

Bri Phillips, Geneva badminton, Sr.

"It's definitely a lot harder. I've never played a spring sport before. It's definitely hard when it's sunny out. … If we played outside, that would be cool."
