Berwyn will seek new recruits for police department, promotes member of fire department at meeting

BERWYN – The Berwyn Police Department will add two new names to its roster of officers following the pending retirements of Watch Commander Louis Stillo and police Officer Anthony Pellegrino.

The Berwyn City Council approved a request from Police Chief Jim Ritz to hire two new probationary police officers from the current Berwyn Fire and Police Commission’s Eligibility List when the council met April 28.

Both positions are replacements and were included in the approved 2015 Berwyn Police Department budget.

For the Berwyn Fire Department, firefighter Patrick Sharkey was sworn in at the meeting following his promotion to the senior position of engineer. Sharkey’s promotion date was effective Friday.

Sharkey’s promotion will fill the vacancy of John Novacek, who recently retired from the Berwyn Fire Department.

The replacement of Novacek and the promotion of Sharkey were reflected in the Berwyn Fire Department budget approved for 2015.
