CRYSTAL LAKE – A 21-year-old Crystal Lake man was charged with the armed robbery of a Super 8 motel Saturday afternoon, Crystal Lake police said.
Trent James Keegan, of 1464 Skyridge Drive, Crystal Lake, was charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony, after he was picked up by Crystal Lake police at 12:55 a.m. Sunday, about eight hours after officers responded to the Super 8 motel, 577 Crystal Point Drive, for a report of an armed robbery, according to a news release issued Monday.
A man, armed with a knife, had jumped over the front counter of the motel and demanded money from the clerk, the release said. After taking about $1,200 in cash, the man fled on foot. The clerk was not hurt, the release said.
Crystal Lake police were assisted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Conservation District police during a subsequent search.
Keegan remains in McHenry County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
