VILLA PARK – Pets Best Insurance Services has named Villa Park veterinarian Mary Felt the nation's best veterinarian of 2014, according to a news release from the pet health insurance agency.
Felt, who treats animals at the DuPage Animal Hospital in Villa Park, took home the top honors of the 2014 My Vet’s the Best contest, which featured more than 20 finalists from across the country.
The contest was developed by Pets Best to recognize outstanding veterinarians who go above and beyond to keep pets healthy, the release stated. As part of the award, Felt received $1,000 to support her charitable work.
She plans to use the money to help organizations such as Yorkie Rescue and Making Our Pugs Safe pug rescue, two groups she works with frequently.
Felt also is the primary care provider for the dogs with the Elmhurst and Villa Park police departments. In addition, she recently provided free care for a U.S. Army captain’s dog while he was away on deployment, according to the release.
Each year, hundreds of veterinarians receive nominations from pet owners for the Pets Best contest. While voting for the contest’s seasonal winners is open to the public through the Pets Best Insurance website and Facebook page, each year’s grand prize winner is selected by an internal review panel comprised of respected veterinarians, the release stated.
