MORRIS – The Morris Community High School Redskin Speech Team kicked off their 2014-15 season with a team victory at the Morris Redskin Invitational.
The Redskins finished in first with 412 points. Second place was Joliet West with 344 points. Third place went to Yorkville High School with 328 points, and fourth place was Coal City High School with 253 points. Rounding out the top five was Plainfield Central with 224 points, according to a news release from Morris High School.
Morris tournament champions were: Adam Roseland and Haleigh Zorn in Dramatic Duet Acting, Haleigh Zorn in Informative Speaking, Mikaela Marino in Original Oratory, Adam Roseland and Sophie Gaska in Humorous Duet Acting, and Sophie Gaska in Oratorical Declamation.
Second place finishes for Morris were: Dylan Obrochta and McKayla Zorn in Humorous Duet Acting, Emily Trader in Original Oratory and Jessica Carey in Dramatic Interpretation and Prose Reading.
Third place finishes for Morris were: Cole Enervold in Special Occasion Speaking, Grace Tibbott in Oratorical Declamation, Avery Norris and Maren Bashor in Dramatic Duet Acting, and Megan Davy and Veronica Johnson in Humorous Duet Acting.
Fourth place finishes for Morris were: Alexa Rain in Prose Reading, Ethan Frobish in Extemporaneous Speaking, Megan Davy in Informative Speaking, and Amber Misek and Stefani Kier in Humorous Duet Acting.
Fifth place finishes for Morris were: Dylan Obrochta in Original Comedy, Evan Gagnon in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Maren Bashor in Poetry Reading.
Sixth place finishes for Morris were: Emily Trader in Poetry Reading, Jack Galloway in Special Occasion Speaking, and Paulie Robinson-Stevens in Impromptu Speaking.
Top Novice medals went to Morris students Nick Alonzo in Extemporaneous Speaking, Veronica Johnson in Humorous Interpretation, Haley Fritchtnitch in Dramatic Interpretation, Elijah Jameson in Impromptu Speaking and Original Comedy, Carmen Voss in Informative Speaking, Rylie Linn in Prose Reading, and Aubrey Thomson in Poetry Reading.
The Redskin Speech Team is coached by MCHS teacher Andrea Gustafson. Assistant coaches are Denise Gaska, Rhett Higgins, and Eva Schutter. Team captains are Jessica Carey, Cole Enervold, Sophie Gaska, Jake Hesslau and Haleigh Zorn.
