Mary Margaret ‘Margy’ Henkel

SUBLETTE – Mary Margaret “Margy” Henkel, 88, of Sublette, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Margy was born March 23, 1926, in Mendota, to Otto and Margaret (Knaff) Schmidt. She married Joseph Henkel on Nov. 24, 1948, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Peterstown. Margy was a homemaker and a fabulous baker. She was a member of Country Square Square Dancers, St. Anne Sodality, numerous card clubs, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Sublette.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Gary) Knight of Littleton, Colorado, and Janet (Craig) Setchell of Amboy; three sons, Jerry (Karen) Henkel and Greg (Colleen) Henkel, both of West Brooklyn, and Fran (Jan) Henkel of Mendota; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Nov. 29, 2002; one son, Tom Henkel, on Aug. 18, 1982; and five brothers, Edward, George, Carl, Leonard, and Joe Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday and the funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Sublette, with the Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sublette. Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota is handling arrangements. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jeffrey Brown, Adam Henkel, Kyle Henkel, Aaron Setchell, Megan Henkel, and Katie Henkel.

A memorial has been established to School Sisters of St. Francis of Milwaukee, 1501 S. Layton Blvd., Milwaukee, WI 53215-1924.
