LA GRANGE – Kicking off its 50-year anniversary, the Lyons Aquatics Swim Club began its season at last weekend’s Lyons Pride swim meet, at Lyons Township High School.
Almost 600 swimmers in nine teams participated at the meet. Lyons Aquatics swimmers scored more than 4,600 points, which was 3,000 more than the second place club scored.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the effort given by all athletes,” Lyons Aquatics head coach Casey Hnatiuk said in a news release. “The swimmers had some incredible swims for so early in the season and we are very excited for what the rest of the season has to bring for Lyons.”
The club, previously known as the Lyons Swim Club, debuted in 1964 after a few parents wanted an indoor swim club for their kids to keep their skills fresh during the winter months.
What started as a team with one coach and a couple of assistant coaches, is now home to seven swim teams, along with a dive team, water polo team and a masters swim program.
