Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down for Elmhurst

THUMBS UP: An iconic piece of Elmhurst architecture has earned a second lease on life. The cupola – the white, steeple-looking structure on top of the former Elmhurst Hospital Berteau building – will be spared from demolition after the city came to terms with the developer in charge of tearing down the building. Nitti Development will remove the cupola, and the city is working with the community to find a new home for it.

THUMBS UP: Congratulations on last week's grand opening of the Elmhurst College Simulation Center at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by tours of the 4,600-square-foot facility, which serves college nursing students, hospital staff as well as first responders and other health care providers in the region. The simulation labs allow students to practice health care scenarios with the college’s life-size, robotic simulated patients.
