Kenneth Reuter

DIXON – Kenneth Reuter, 82, of Dixon, formerly of Amboy, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Heritage Square, after a long illness.

Ken was born April 2, 1932, in East Grove Township, the son of Henry and Myrtle (Chandler) Reuter. After graduating, and serving in the Army during the Korean War, Ken worked in Marietta, Georgia. It was there that he met and married Jane Morris on Dec. 15, 1956. Ken and Jane returned to East Grove, where Ken began his lifetime occupation of farming and farm management, and where they raised their six children. He was active in the community, serving on several boards and committees including East Grove Union Church, Farm Bureau, the Illinois Soil and Water Conservation, and numerous business development groups. Ken was a founding member of the Sauk Valley Community College Board of Trustees, where he served from 1965 to 1973. After his retirement from farming, Ken and Jane enjoyed traveling the world, and spending time with their family.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Reuter of Amboy; four daughters, Angela O’Malley of Coppell, Texas, Kenda (Steve) Bailey and Sandra Reuter, both of Dixon, and Lisa McCormick of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; two sons, David (Mary) Reuter of Queen Creek, Arizona, and Michael (Jackie) Reuter of Carol Stream; 11 grandchildren, Ben, Stephanie, and Allison Bailey, Michael, Andrew, and Melissa Reuter, Lindsey Wiseman, Katie Falconer, Adrian Rios, Anissa Reuter, and Kelsey McCormick; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Sophia Falconer; one brother, Lyle (Phyllis) Reuter of Amboy; and one sister, Hazel Reuter of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dale Reuter; and one sister, Doris Carey.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Brozenec officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to East Grove Union Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
