La Grange Highlands man in 'Breaking Bad' T-shirt charged after police find meth lab

LA GRANGE – A La Grange Highlands man was arrested Monday after police found the makings of a methamphetamine lab in his home – for the second time in less than a year – according to the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

Daniel Kowalski, 21, of the 1000 block of 61st Street in unincorporated La Grange Highlands, was charged with two counts of possession of controlled substance possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials and possession of methamphetamine precursors. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kowalski's arrest photo showed him wearing a T-shirt with the Los Pollos Hermanos logo. The shirt depicts a fictional restaurant chain that serves as a front for a large scale methamphetamine operation on the television show "Breaking Bad."

After receiving information that Kowalski might be cooking methamphetamine, sheriff's police narcotics officers and members of the sheriff's Electronic Monitoring Unit, performed a search of Kowalski's home at 6:45 p.m., according to a news release.

While Kowalski's lab was not active, officers found glass beakers, chemicals, burners and instruction materials for making controlled substances, police said. Also found were 12 jars containing psychedelic mushrooms, police said.

The Cook County Sheriff's Police previously arrested Kowalski in July after finding a suspected methamphetamine lab at his home.

On Monday, two other men were located in the residence but were later released without charges.
