Rachel M. Duncan, 94, Mt. Morris, went to be with her lord on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013. Rachel was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Collier, Kans., the daughter of Samuel J. and Lena (Simon) Stover.
She married Samuel Curtis Duncan on June 10, 1939 in Garber, Iowa.
Rachel and Curtis spent 70 loving years together before he passed away on Oct. 28, 2009.
Rachel was a loving wife and devoted mother.
She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals and sharing those meals and bake goods with neighbors and friends, and caring for her gardens and flowers.
Rachel was a life long member of the Church of The Brethren, volunteering in the Women's Fellowship and she enjoyed teaching the children during Sunday School and Bible School.
Rachel is survived by four children, sons, Kenneth (Joyce) Duncan, Mt. Morris, Danny (Linda) Duncan, Lake Summerset; daughters, Norlene (Edward) Weinberg, Mt. Morris, Debra (Bruce) Kenny, Rockton; 10 grandchildren, Lynette (Kenneth) Van Lerberghe, Carol Stream, Timothy (Nieves) Duncan, Zionsville, Ind., Douglas (Julie) Duncan, Davis, Darren (Michelle) Duncan, Fort Collins, Colo., Jennifer (Gerald) Miller, Goshen, Ind., Rick (Kelly) Weinberg, Redmond, Wash., David Weinberg, DeKalb, Chris Kenny, Rockton, Laurie (Brandon) Miller, O'Fallon, Andrea (Adam) Muhs, Naperville; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law, Lola Duncan, Mt. Morris.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Louise Stover; husband, Curtis; sister, Ruth Messer; two infant brothers; four step-brothers, Arthur Burke, Charles Burke, LeRoy Burke, Vernon Burke; and niece, Betty Mumma.
Funeral service was Aug. 19 at the Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren with Rev. Ginny Haney officiating.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
Arrangements were completed by Finch Funeral Home, Mt. Morris.
