Ronald L. Habben

STERLING – Ronald Lee Habben, 75, of rural Sterling, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at his home.

Ronald was born July 17, 1938, in Clyde Township, the son of Reinhard and Vera (Pierce) Habben. He was educated in rural Whiteside County grade schools and graduated in 1956 from Milledgeville High School. He married Nancy J. Bielema on Sept. 2, 1961, in Fulton. Ronald served in the Army during the Vietnam era.

In his early years, Ronald hauled milk and worked for Leroy Dusing. He then was engaged in farming in the rural Sterling area. Ronald was a member of Coleta United Methodist Church. In his early years, he was a volunteer firefighter. Ronald was an avid antique tractor collector. He was a faithful participant in the local coffee club.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; one daughter, Debra (David) Shuman of Sterling; two sons, Dan (Beth) Habben of Sterling and David (Sarah) Habben of Dixon; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Christina) Snyder, Timothy Snyder, Ryan Shuman, Logan Habben, Abbie Habben, Joey Habben, and Kasey Habben; one great-granddaughter, Marcoree Shuman; four sisters, Judy (Donald) Burmeister of DeWitt, Iowa, Velma Norton of Freeport, Beverly (Ken) Etheridge of Lena, and Donna (Tom) Ardwin of Broomfield, Colo.; one brother, Milford Habben of Morrison; one sister-in-law, Norma Habben of Thomson; and one brother-in-law, Robert Muschal of Morrison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Merna Habben Janvrin-Muschal and Carol Albrecht; and one brother, Norman Habben.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Coleta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Jungnickel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at West Genesee Cemetery in Coleta.

A memorial has been established by the family.
