A Wheaton man has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing more than $4,300 in over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
Patrick F. Karney, 30, was found guilty on Aug. 15 of theft of stolen property between $500 and $10,000, a Class 3 Felony, according to State's Attorney spokesperson Paul Darrah.
Nearly 200 packages of stolen medicine from a Jewel Osco in Naperville, including Allegra, Claratin, Mucinex and others, were found in Karney's vehicle by police officers in Naperville. Employees had given police a description of the thief and his vehicle, which matched that of Karney. Karney consented to a search, whereupon the stolen medications were found.
Karney was sentenced by Judge George Bakalis, and will receive credit for time previously served between March 1 and May 22, 2012, Dec. 24 through 28, 2012 and June 25 through Aug. 15, 2013.
