LOMBARD – The village of Lombard will celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Great Western Trail bridges at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at St. Charles Road and Grace Street.
The ribbon cutting was originally scheduled for May, but extreme flooding delayed construction.
All community members are welcome to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will be followed by a community bike ride to Paradise Bay Water Park, where the village will host its National Night Out celebration.
The Great Western Trail bridge project began nearly two years ago with the purpose of installing three bridges over St. Charles Road, Grace Street and the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks. These bridges will carry trail users over the streets and railroad tracks.
Before the installation of the bridges, the trail ended at Grace Street and users wanting to continue east needed to cross Grace Street, St. Charles Road and the railroad tracks before picking up the path east of the Lombard Commons.
Any questions about the bridges can be directed to Lombard's Public Works Department at 630-620-5740.
