Angela Alberta 'Bert' Piper

PRINCETON – Angela Alberta “Bert” (Maupin) Piper, 87, of Princeton, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, with family present. Bert was a lifelong homemaker and a treasured wife, mother, and grandmother. Bert also was a devout parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton.

Bert was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Indiantown Township, near Tiskilwa, to Owen C. and Virginia M. (Livers) Maupin. She attended Jamison School in rural Tiskilwa, Tiskilwa High School, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1943. She worked at a local “five and dime store” in Princeton, where she proudly made bows and worked behind the candy counter. It was at this candy counter where she first met her cherished husband. She later worked in the administrative office of Pioneer Hi-Bred in Princeton. She married the love of her life, Robert Rex “Bob” Piper, on Sept. 19, 1945, in the St. Louis Catholic Church parsonage. Bert assisted Bob in operating their family farm near Five Points, northeast of Princeton. Many treasured memories were made raising their family on the farm. As one of 10 children and a mother of four, Bert’s life was devoted to her family and to her community. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Bert is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob Piper of Princeton. She also is survived by one son, Rex (Deb) Piper of Princeton; three daughters, Renee (Gordon) Stuepfert of La Moille, Rita (Bruce) Placek of Princeton, and Robyn (George “Jay” Jordan) Piper of Del Mar, Calif.; 10 grandsons, Scott Stuepfert, Michael Stuepfert, Eric (Emily) Piper, Mark Piper, Kyle Piper, Jay Piper, Brian (Kendra) Placek, Justin Placek, Brandon (Jessica) Placek, and George (“Mick”) Jordan; two granddaughters, Taylor Jordan and Cassandra Jordan; two great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and two sisters-in-law, Laura Maupin of Granville, N.Y., and Mary Olson of Walnut.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Owen J., Walter, Charles B. “Barney,” and Edward; and five sisters, Winifred Giltner, Mary Lucille (Albright) Nelson, Elizabeth “Bessie” Hodge, Virginia Finn, and Mary Imelda Hoffman.

Services will begin with a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton, followed by a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton, with the Rev. Jeffrey Stirniman officiating. Burial will be at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton. After the internment, the family will receive friends and family to celebrate Mrs. Piper’s life and love, at Harkrader Hall at St. Louis Catholic Church. The family welcomes and encourages all to attend.
