Animal hospital awards scholarship

CAROL STREAM – The Carol Stream Animal Hospital awarded the Life Science College Scholarship of $1,000 to Glenbard North High School student Joanna Bugaj. Bugaj will attend Loyola University Chicago and study biology and pre-med.

Bugaj listed her anatomy class and her experience with feline dissection as motivating factors in her life. She has been a member of the Future Doctors of America Club. She also is involved with badminton, newspaper, National Honors Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also is fluent in Polish after taking Saturday classes at Emilia Plater Polish School. She hopes to receive her docurate in a health-related field.

In a statement, Elise Ciribassi, a doctor at Carol Stream Animal Hospital, said, “While we know that the American Way is through sports and athletics, we believe that the academic road is rigorous and a lot of work as well. Many times, academic students don’t get recognized as they should.”

“So in this light, we have chosen a student entering into the health profession field to receive our $1000 scholarship, who will be attending a four-year college program.”
