DIXON – James “Jim” Robert Dishman Jr., 64, of Dixon, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was a truck driver for Purdy Brothers for 16 years, and for Sharkey Transport for 2 years.
Jim was born July 4, 1948, in Belvidere, the son of Lois Irene (Morrison) and James Robert Dishman Sr. He married Gabriele Naujoks on Jan. 17, 1973, in Nuremberg, Germany. Jim loved his family dearly and always had a genuine smile on his face. He was a train enthusiast for all of his life, and had a passion for music, photography, computers, and gadgets. Jim enjoyed being outdoors when the weather got hot.
Survivors include his wife of Dixon; his mother, Lois Dishman; one son, Eric (Elizabeth) Dishman of Peoria; one daughter, Isabell (Greg) Roberts of Dixon; six grandchildren, Macy Thompson, Asia Thompson, Moses Thompson, Isaiah Thompson, India Thompson, and Wyatt Dishman; two great-grandchildren, Lainey Thompson and Hayden Poole; and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Kalebaugh, pastor of The Refuge Church in Amboy, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
