North Riverside mayor sues village Trustee Rocco DeSantis

NORTH RIVERSIDE — Mayoral hopeful Rocco DeSantis, who was cast off the ballot by a local electoral board, is now being sued by North Riverside Mayor Kenneth Krochmal in an attempt to oust him from his position as village trustee, according to media reports.

The suit argues DeSantis is still an active duty police officer and, as such, can't hold the office of trustee. A hearing will be held Feb. 15 at the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago.

The argument of the suit is the same one Krochmal and two other members of a local electoral board used in January to disqualify DeSantis from appearing on the April 9 ballot, according to reports.

DeSantis, a police sergeant, is on a disability pension and hasn't worked as a patrolman since Dec. 26, 2006, when he was injured while trying to quell a large-scale brawl inside the North Riverside Park Mall, according to media reports.
