Man arrested, accused of lewd act during RB swim meet

RIVERSIDE — A Rockford man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly was masturbating in the bleachers during a boys swim meet at Riverside Brookfield High School.

Police responded to a call of a suspicious man walking the halls of the school at 9:45 a.m. Saturday when they discovered 49-year-old Lawrence E. Adamczyk watching the boys swim team.

Adamczyk, of the 1600 block of Oregon Street in Rockford, told police he was “feeding from the energy of the school” and that he was aroused by the boys in their swimwear during a swimming competition that was taking place, according to police reports. There also were other sporting events happening at the school at that time.

When police approached Adamczyk, who was sitting in the bleachers watching the meet, he allegedly told them he had children who were competing. After asking for the names of his kids, Adamczyk paused and then refused to answer.

He told police he would have attempted a sexual encounter with one of the swimmers, police said. He allegedly had taken the train from Chicago to Riverside, got off the train and walked west toward Brookfield Zoo, with his original intent to go to the zoo to look for boys to have oral sex with, according to police reports.

However, when Adamczyk walked by the front of the high school on Ridgewood Road, he “received a brainwave message from Hollywood recording artist Justin Bieber telling him to go to the school to see the kids.”

Adamczyk told police he communicates with Bieber and “people from the other side,” and had served 17 months at Lawrence Correctional Center in Sumner for a previous conviction, police said. He continued to tell police that he had been masturbating while watching the swimming event before police arrived, and made several other intensely sexual statements involving young boys to police investigators.

Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel said Adamczyk has several prior arrests, including an indication on his current parole status that he had prior sex offenses.

At the time of his arrest, he was on electronic monitoring and had been paroled in December to a halfway house in Chicago for a July 2011 arrest in St. Charles. In that case, he had been charged with committing a sex act at a fitness center, police said.

Adamczyk also has been arrested on charges of similar crimes at a high school in Rockford in 2009 and at Northern Illinois University in 2005.

"I cannot understand how this individual was not required to register as a sex offender," Weitzel said. "Not only did he intend to enter the high school to locate a young male to victimize, but if he was unsuccessful, he was prepared to walk half a block north to Brookfield Zoo and look for an additional young boy to victimize."

Weitzel had his staff contact the Illinois Department of Corrections, and Adamczyk's parole status was revoked. He was being held without bond Monday on disorderly conduct and criminal trespass charges.

An RB security officer reported Adamczyk as a suspicious person to police, and officers responded quickly to take him into custody, Weitzel said. The Lyons Police Department assisted in the arrest.
