DOWNERS GROVE — Nine Cub Scouts from Pack 86 of Downers Grove got a tour of Suburban Life Media’s Downers Grove newsroom on Monday.
The boys, students from Lester Elementary School, are most excited for their upcoming Pinewood Derby in two weeks.
“We make cars out of wood and race them,” said Zachery Heppner, 9.
The cars are raced on a big wooden track in their school gym, with members of the entire pack competing against each other.
But the Cub Scouts already have been busy this school year. They’ve gone camping, sold popcorn, learned how to tie knots and to whittle.
They even got to climb tanks at Cantigny Park in Wheaton last year.
“We almost got to climb on every single tank,” said Ben Koncel, 8.
The other Cub Scouts who participated in the visit were: Jeremy Gale, 9; David Hipp, 9; Tyler Loo, 9; Sam Kahovec, 8; Alex Brauweiler, 9; Evan Miller, 8; and Ronnie Cutler, 8.
