WHAT TO WATCH Hinsdale Central returns to this prestigious event which has expanded to 32 teams this winter.
The field is always loaded with ranked teams and this year is no different. Included in that group are Morgan Park, Homewood-Flossmoor, Proviso East, Oswego and St. Joseph. As a result, the Red Devils will see exactly how they stack up against some of the best in Illinois.
The squad will open against Stevenson with either Von Steuben or St. Charles East awaiting in the second game.
Hinsdale Central currently stands with a record of 3-3 after a pair of close losses to Oak Park-River Forest and Naperville Central last weekend. The Red Devils are led by Brian Owens, Matt Rafferty, Chase Hamilton and Alec Hutcherson.

Hinsdale South
TOURNAMENT Hinsdale South Holiday Classic
LOCATION Hinsdale South High School, 7401 Clarendon Hills Road, Darien
FIRST GAME 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 vs. Minooka
WHAT TO WATCH An inexperienced Hornets team has had some understandable growing pains thus far but seem headed on the right track under first-year coach Tanner Mitchell.
Hinsdale South owns a 2-5 record heading into Friday's matchup with Leyden, though its last two losses to undefeated Glenbard West and Downers Grove South (4-2 record) have come by a combined nine points.
The Hornets have three games remaining, against Leyden, Morton and Bloom, before hosting their own holiday tournament for the second consecutive year. Hinsdale South is the No. 12 seed in the 16-team bracket and will open up against No. 5 Minooka with the winner advancing to play either Stagg or Highland Park in the second round. Lake Forest, St. Patrick and Brother Rice are the top three seeds.

FIRST GAME 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 vs. Jacobs
WHAT TO WATCH After a building year in 2011-12, a more experienced Red Devils team has seen its hard work pay off thus far. Dropping its season opener to Naperville Central, Hinsdale Central rebounded to win six of its next seven games, which includes West Suburban Silver victories over York, Lyons Township and Downers Grove North.
Sophomore Gabrielle Rush continues to be the star though she is receiving plenty of contributions from her teammates, including senior Lily Sarros.
The Red Devils have two more league contests against Oak Park-River Forest and Glenbard West before heading to the Falcon Classic, where they received the No. 4 seed. The squad will take on Jacobs with the winner playing either LT or St. Charles East in the second round.

TOURNAMENT Montini Christmas tournament
LOCATION Montini Catholic High School, 16W070 16th St., Lombard
FIRST GAME 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 against Romeoville
WHAT TO WATCH After a couple of hiccups early on, Hinsdale South has turned it on as of late, winning its third consecutive game Tuesday with a 38-30 decision over Downers Grove South. The victory, which upped the team's overall record to 4-3, also kept the Hornets undefeated in West Suburban Gold conference play heading into this weekend's matchups with Leyden and Willowbrook.
Senior Toni Romiti is the unquestioned leader of the young team, and she has played like a superstar in the early going, helping to ease the loss of a strong senior class which included four-year varsity standout Uzo Okoro. Junior Mary Clare Ladd has also stepped up for the Hornets.
Hinsdale South could face its stiffest challenges of the season at the Montini event, which features one of the strongest fields in the state of Illinois. Included amongst the 16 teams are the likes of Marian Catholic, Rolling Meadows, Romeoville and the host Lady Broncos, all of which are undefeated and ranked highly in the state.
The Hornets open up with Romeoville. The winner would take on either Plainfield East and Oak Park-River Forest in the second round.
